Sisyphus (Sisyphus) is a king known for angering Zeus and defeating death twice. Sisyphus (Sisyphus), the first king of the city of Corinth, was a ruler renowned for his cleverness and cunning. He made a great contribution to the maritime and trade network of his time, but he is self-centered and deceitful.
One day, Aegina, the daughter of the river-god Asopus, disappeared. After his daughter’s disappearance, Asopos set out to look for her and followed her trail. Asopos, who encountered Sisyphus while searching for his daughter, asked him if he knew anything about it. Sisyphus, a clever and cunning king, conveyed that he would tell him what he knew in return for doing him a favor (giving his kingdom a river), and they agreed. He told Asopos that Zeus had kidnapped his daughter. The evil fate of Sisyphus, who betrayed and betrayed Zeus, was drawn after these words.
Zeus was very angry at this betrayal of Sisyphus and sent the angel of death Thanatos to chain him to the underworld. When Thanatos is about to chain Sisyphus, he is chained himself in a momentary mistake. Having survived death thanks to his cunning, Sisyphus returns to the world of the living – his own kingdom. No one could die because the god of death was in chains. Everything in the realm was plunged into chaos.
Killing yourself just means “not worth the effort”.
Sisyphus, Albert Camus
Even more angry, Zeus first sends Ares to free Thanatos from his chains and then imprisons Sisyphus back in the underworld. But this time, Sisyphus, who deceived Hades, returns to earth again. Sisyphus continues to live on earth until he becomes old.
Afterwards, he is captured by Hermes (or Thanatos) again and taken to the underworld, and this time he will be punished without deceiving anyone.
Sisyphus’ punishment is to push a huge boulder to the top of the hill. Although it may seem like an easy punishment at first glance, the most important part is that this pushing becomes a continuous cycle. Because just as he reaches the top of the rock, the rock rolls down. The rock can never reach the top.
Knowing that the rock will fall every time, Sisyphus never stops trying. He tries again and again with each passing time without losing hope. Albert Camus said: “Man has to overcome life, despite its meaninglessness and all its pressures.” This is what it was called in Sisyphus; to defeat his destiny.
