In 2017, the series La Casa De Papel, which made a big impact with its release on Netflix, was especially loved in our country. Filmed for 5 seasons, this gripping series made a big impact both in terms of characters and fluency. La Casa De Papel, a Spanish series, even increased interest in the Spanish language. Even especially Turks started to be curious about Spanish culture. So why was it so popular? Series Plot

A criminal mastermind teams up with eight thieves to carry out the grand heist he has been planning for years. These eight thieves take hostages and lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain. And this is where it all begins.

Characters

The biggest thing that makes a series watchable is undoubtedly the liking of the characters. If the viewer warms up to the characters and starts to empathise with them, the likelihood of liking the series and continuing to watch it increases. La Casa De Papel had exactly this effect. El Profesor (Professor)

The show’s genius character Sergio, aka The Professor, may be the most admired character in the series. He is locked in his goal to realise the robbery he has been working on and planning for years. The plan actually belongs to the Professor’s father, but he died before he could realise this robbery. The Professor decides to carry out this plan both for his father and for himself and his eight fellow robbers. Although he is a character who acts with his logic and does not deviate from his plan, he encounters an unexpected surprise and falls in love. The biggest reason why this character is loved is the Professor’s incredible intelligence and the tricks he plays on the police.

Berlin

The death of the Berlin character at the end of the 2nd season was very upsetting for the viewers. Although he was a character with sociopathic, narcissistic and selfish characteristics, he never interrupted the plan and acted very professionally. Because of this professionalism, the viewers liked Berlin very much. But even though the character died in season 2, we were able to watch Berlin in flashback scenes in other seasons. Tokyo

Tokyo is the narrator of the series. For this reason, perhaps we can call him the main character. Tokyo is undoubtedly the craziest, most exciting and enthusiastic name of the series. The number of characters he does not disagree with is very few. Tokyo is a character who has adopted the leadership role very much but is often unprofessional. The biggest reason for this is of course his love for Rio. Although viewers question whether this is a love or an obsession, we saw in season 5 that Tokyo really loves Rio. His passion and strong stances were the point that connected the audience to him.

Nairobi

Perhaps the character whose death we as viewers are most saddened by is Nairobi. In season 4, Nairobi was killed by Gandia, an officer soldier, in a surprise and sudden way. His death shocked the audience because we traditional viewers usually think that if our favourite characters die, the series will end or will no longer give the old pleasure. But no matter how sad we were, this did not stop us from watching the series. The main reason why Nairobi is loved so much and why her death is so sad is that Nairobi shows a strong female figure. She takes the leadership role very well and is a symbol of rebellion against patriarchy.

Why is it so popular?

La Casa De Papel, which captured our hearts with its immersive atmosphere, reverse corners and sympathetic characters, was loved for these reasons. Series with long seasons can usually start to get monotonous after a while. But this is not the case in La Casa De Papel.
